FOXTON WHARF.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE MAVAWATU lIEP.ALD. Sir — May I ask yon, in the interests of the country,to tell us if the desired ohange.s in the railway and enlargement of wharf could have been effected a short time since. I have been led to believe that Government provided a plan and offered the money, but because a pai-iy of the envious could not have the re ilway and wharf on their land, they petitioned that tho quesiion should be delayed, and so delayed it has been, and we must pay for that delay. lam happy to say Palmerston joins us in the cry for need' ful improvements, and I read the late article in the Manawatu Times with great interest. What we ask are, all the naked facts — just what wns done and not done. Our determination is that if Foxton men choose to quarrel, they are not for that reason to shut us from the port that is as much our life as theirs. Could not the present wharf be let, and private enterprise would soon find a plan to do ten times the work now done. I am, &c, Countryman. Sandon, September 20, 1879.
