MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR
A VESSKL ABUOIM-: OtfF WAIKANAE. On Thursday evening last, Mr T. Mnhcr, the driver of tho up-coach, roportod that a vessel was ashore off WaiUanuo on that inoi-uing. From his sfutoinenf, which is corroborated by the driver of the dowacoach on that d.iy, Mr George Pugsley, it appears that the" vessel was aground on a^ sb.o."' vb.'c^ ■--!■-- i.o? Just at this time, the wind set off shore, and as the tide was rising, the vessel backed off, and steered away in the direction of Kapiti. The vessel is described aj being barque-rigged, and laden pretty heavily. A nautical resident at Waikanau exprejios his opinion that there wa3 a row on board, from the apf earanco of the sails. We have given the above as described to ua, and think it is a matter which should be fully investigated. We notice that vessels have arrived at Wellington since the evont, aud the occurrence has not, as yet, been reported. _^
