FOXTON LOCAL BOARD.

Thursday, August 14. The Board met at 3.30 p.m. Present — Messrs Crowther (Chairman), Loudon, Cook, and Coley. The minutes of previous meeting were read, and confirmed. The followiug tenders were received for cutting a drain on Howan's road, off the Avenue : — H. Blake, £2 15s ; T. Connor, ■ £3 ; Ed. Henn, £17s 6d per chain, informal The tender of Mr Blako was accepted. It having been reported that the Committee appointed to consider the Rev. Mr Duncan's claim had not fulfilled their duties, the same commissioners were appointed to inspect the work on the following day, and report to next meeting. It was resolved to pay £30 on account to Mr T. McCarthy. It will be remembered that some time ago a letter was sent to the County Council, asking that body to grant a refund of £10 for work expended in removing the sand, owing to the County not having formed the road the full width. As no reply has been received, the Clerk was instructed to call attention to tho letter, and request an answer. ' The following resolution was proposed by Mr Crowthor :— " That in the opinion of this Board the representative* of this Riding in the County Council should endeavour to get the Main-street formed and metalled from the corner of section No. s<> towards race course hill." Seconded by Mr Coley, and carried. Upon the motion of Mr Loudon. the Clerk was instructed to take out summonses for rates ngainst 38 i ersons, including the Chairman of the Public Halt Co. The Clerk was allowed £10 petty cash for summonses. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Thynna, the Board's Returning Officer, requesting him to take necessary steps for holding the election of Commissioners for the Local Board district ; nominations to be sent in on September ) , and the poll (if necessary) on the following day. The following accounts were passed:— H. Blake, for Aver.ue Koad contract. £9 ; G. Mudford, iioßtß and rails for fencing in the Avenue drain, A' 27a 6d ; W. Atkins, labour Recount, 15s ; T. Lind, repairing wheelbarrow, 6s 6d ; Robinson and party, advance on footpaths contract, £30. It was stated that after payment of the accounts, the Board's account would be overdrawn to the extent of £8 6s. The next meeting will take place on August 28, at 3.30 p.m.
