SAW DON RAILWAY VOTERS' LIST.

Mr Henry Sauson, the Revising Officer appointed by the Governor, held a Court at . the Foxton Court House on Friday last, for ' the revision of the voters' roll for the Foxton Sanson Raihvuy Disti'ict. Tho proceedings wore very tame, only some three or 1 four persons being present. The Revising Officer briefly explained the object for which tha Court was held, namely, to hear objections against persons whose names had no right to appear on the roll, and to place on it any whose names were accidentally omittei. Ro one was entitled to huvo his name upon it unless ho was either a landowner or had a lease with ten years to run. Mr E. S. Thynne appeared as a matter of form, and objected to the names of the following persons being retained on tho roll, as they were not possessed of a qualification which would entitle them to vote : — L. H. Burr, C. H. Collins, H. Davidson, Russell Bros., R. Davis, Q-. Hadfield, A. \V. Howe, H. Hillen, H. Westwood, aud H. Baker. In tho ahove oases, on the names being struck out, the property was transferred to the owner, thus increasing his voting power. On the application of Mr Thynne, 1 the name of Ellen Biers was substituted ■ for that of Wm. Byers, her husband, the • property being under her control. Ojectiims lodged by Mr Thyune against • Tln3. Bowc and P. Mangan were withdrawn, as it had been discovered their leases were of sufficient length to entitle tboin each to vote. Mr Thynne also brought a test case as to ownership. He informed the Court that he had brought an objection aguust l£. H. Fume, to get a ruling from the Court as to whether a person who had p lid part of the purchase money upon laud was to be considered tho owner. Mr Sanson replied that the objection could not bo sustained, as he ruled that where any monoy had been paid as part payment for land, tho person so paying it was the owner. Upon the application of Mr Thynne, the following names wore added to the list, having beeu accidentally omitted : — J. Gruerin, J. Kewley.R. G. Palmer, T. Lind. Dr Rockstrow applied to Mr Sanson to hear the objection he hud lodged. Mr Sanson replied that he certainly had received an objection from Dr Rockstrow, but he hud no power to consider it. The Court was hold to revise the roll of voters, and any objections to it, he would bo only too glad to hear. The objection sent in by Dr Kookstro.v, however valid, was quite out of his jurisdiction, and he coui.l take no notice of it in any way. Dr llookstrow asked Mr Sanson to read the objection, but he declined either to read it, or allow it to be copied. Dr Hockstrow said he should apply to the Government for redress. Mr Christopher Simpsom then oame forward to support an objection lodged by him. He stated that he objected to bo rated ou the ground that he would receive no benefit whatever from the Sandon line, oxcept in common with the general public. His railway frontage along the present line caused him to be rated heavier than he would be otherwise, and if the daudon line were made the main trunk line, he would be left upon what was merely a branch. Mr Sanson replied that he was not there to hear objections against the railway rate or valuation. The voter's list was what he had to do with. The land to which Mr Simpson objected was in the railway district, being within five miles of the proposed line. The district had been fixed by the directors of the Company, and as ho oonsidered Mr Simpson would derive benefit from the railway, he could not strike his name off, or allow his objections. The Court then adjourned until 2.30 p.m., when Mr Gower objected to 8 sections on behalf of Mr Lark worthy, as being outside the railway distriot. On examination of the map, this proved to be the case, and the objection was therefore allowed. Sectioa 14 was transferred from J. W. Gower to T. M'Kenzie, senr., and that gentleman's uaine was placed on the roll, The Court then closed.
