Dun'*dln\ Tuesday. A meeting of (he Acclimatisation Society took place to dny, when a letter was read from the Colouial Secretary, B latingthatMr A.M. Johnston, of Christchnrch, had applied for permission to catch trout in tho Middle Island, for tho purpose of nvtificial propagation. This permission the Colonial Secretary felt inclined to grant, but aakoA tho concurrence of the o ta o° Society. .The Council decided to inform the Colonial Secretary that so far as Otago was concerned they looked after the propagation, &<•., of tho salmon, and if he wanted ova he would oblige by applying to them. Deanes, tho manager of the Society, who broke his leg lately, is not yet able to resume duly. New Plymouth. Seventy-eight more aimed constables have arrived from Waikato. ! The Taranaki Volunteer Force now numbers 580. Mr Breach, the Opunake miller, has twenty tons of flour, the produce of Maorigrown wheat, ready to be despatched to i'arihaka. The Maoris appear puzzled, and cannot reconcile our arming with Te Whiti's prophecies of peace. Seventy-three volunteers were aworn-in at MaDutahi North yesterday. Patea, Juno 11. One hundred and thirty volunteers were sworn-in at Carlyle yesterday, and sevonty cavalry. All through the district the settlers are organizing. There is a strong fueling prevalent that the Government should take advantage of this opportunity to settle the Native difliculty on the Coaßt once for all ; that Hiroki should be demanded and Te \\ hiti secured. It is felt there can be no assurance of safety while Parihaka is allowed to remain a neat of malcontents.
