(ueuter's telegrams.) London April 17. The latest Cape news is dated Cape Town, Ist April. It states : — A relieving force started from Kkowe yesterday, consisting of 6000 men with Gatlug guns and a rocket column. The troops are in good health. On the 30th March Colonel Pearson signalled trom Ekowe that 200 of the garrison were disabled, aud only 500 men were effective. It is state i that 35,000 Zulu 3 wait the arrival of the ifikowe relieving force. 2000 Zulus attacked Colonel Wood's camp near Luueburg. Severe tighting ensued, lasting four hours. The enemy were repulsed. The British loss was 7 officers and 70 men. The Earl of Derby has seceded from the conservative party. St. Petersburg, April 17. The name of the would-be assassin of the Emperor of Russia is ascertained to be Betrum Soloriff, a schoolmaster. The Emperor, when replying to the congratulations presented him on his escape, announced that extraordinary repressive measures will be instituted. April 18. In furtherance of the intimation of the Emperor of llussia for the re^ pression of Nihilism, the Governors of at. Petersburg and the chief provinces are provisionally invested with absolute power. Melbourne, Friday. Dr. Bernard Doyle, frjni New Zealand, to-day charged several women with the robbery of £1100.
