! # (PEB, PBESS AGENCY.) Auckland, April 20. The barques Aberdeen and Honita have proceeded to Tauranga to raise the Tuupo. Each is capable of raising more than a thousand tons. An application by a couutry school committee to tbe Board of Education yesterday to replace a female teac'aer with a male was refused, the Board being of opinion that female teachers ate more efficient than males iv small schools. Dunedin Saturday. In the Police Court to-day Julius Hastwood, a member of the Timaru Volunteer Company, was charged with having, on the 1 5th instant, conducted himself iv Stuart street in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. He was further charged with having stolen £5, the property of Kate Walker, the keeper of a house of ill-fame in Stuart-street. The accused was arrested at Timaru on a warrant, and the evidence went to show that on the night in question the accused led about 60 volunteers to Walker's house, and proceeded to de-» molish it, ullegiug thao he had lost £5 there, and was going to have it back, Detective Neill, seeing the turn things were taking, induced Miss Walker to Eastwood £o on protest, and this money accused was now charged with stealing, lie wasremauded till Wednesday for the attendance of the captain of his company, who, it is alleged is a solicitor, and was going to appear for liim.
