! The decision in the inquiry into the loss ! of the Hydrabad was given at Wellington ! on Tuesday by 0. C. Unham, Esq.. and Dr lJiver, J.P: _. and Captains Koberts and Fraser, Nautioal Assessors, file Ohrtirman Mr Graham, delivered judgment as foi- , lows: — Ha via j heard tho evidence relative | to the above-named ship, we find the wreck I manly attributable to tin severe _rale raging at the time in the first instance, and to the parting- of her c.bles when let go ou nearing land iv the second instance. That the master o. the ship, Captain rlolmwood, j did ull in his power to save the ship, and j acted rightly in rnaniug her stern on to j tho shore at the last, as the most likely in ) ans of saving the liv-s of the crew. We j are thereforo of opinion tliat no blame is j attributable to Capt-tiu Holm wood for the i loss of the ship. We would further remark th-it the evideno. show. th:it the log book was not kopt with . that amount of oare which is absolutely necessary, and while c_uf.ou.ng the "chief ollher ou this point, would also recommend that he devote some attention to the subject of compass errors in iron ships. The certificates of the officers were accordingly ordered to be returned, the costs of the inquiry not to be borne by the master.— N. Z. Times.
