In our ad vei tiding columns a notice will be found, calling a public meeting at the Sanson schoolhouse on Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m. The Committee on that occasion will inform the settlers of the progress that has been made in the formation and floating of tho Company, and an opportunity will be afforded intending shareholders of signing tho articles of association, and taking up shares. Tu. people o'" tho whole Sandon district are so deeply interested in tho railway, that no persuasion will, we are' sure, be necessary, to secure a large and influential meeting. We judge from tho fact that the publio are invited t)take up shares, that the Company is now fairly launched, and we would repeat our heartiest wishes for the success of the undertaking. At tho same time we would suggest that the Provisional Directors, if they intend bringing the affair before tbe public, should do so in a thorough manner. If they are ready, let them boldly appeal to the settlers throughout the Manawatu and Rangitikei Districts, and in Wellington and Wanganui. The force of its awn merit will carry the railway through. If they are not fully prepared for this, we think it a mistake to ask the public of Sandon to take up shares. When v start is made it should be a good one. The saving of a few pounds by a falso economy may seriously damage the appeal in other quarters. Already the scheme has suffered from the spirit of over-carefulnoss. Wet do not advocate undue haste ; we would rather see the opening of the share list delayed a week or two, if necessary ; but we ure anxious that the affair may be carried through ia a business-like manner, with energy and spirit, and that when the share list is opened, every publicity may be given, and the scheme carried through to a successful issue.
