LOCAL BOARD ELECTION.
At the hour appointed f/r receiving nominations for the election of two Commissioners to the Local Board, at the Court House yesterday, about half a doaea ratepayers put in an appearance.
Mr E. S. Thynne, Returning Officer, opened the proceedings by read* ing the advertisement in the Manawatu Herald calling the election, and stated that ho was then prepared to receive tho nominations.
Mr Crowther proposed Theophilus Easton as a fit and proper person for Commissioner. Mr ftobeat Kobinson offered to second, but it was discovered that he was not a ratepayer in the Local Board District. Mr Francis Kobinson then seconded.
Mi Baker proposed, and Mr Crowthor seconded, John Frederick Rock* atrow as a fit and proper person to act as Commissioner.
No other candidate being proposed — The Returning Officer declared
Messrs Kaston and Bockstrow to be duly elected Commissioners of the Foxton Local Board.
The proceedings, which were very tarau throughout, then concluded, . witfiout even the customary vote of -^ thanks to the Returning Officer.
