R.M. CoimT.— Mr Ward, R.M.,willin all probability have a heavy dny at Foxton next Wednesday, some of the business which will come before the Court being from Otaki. We understand a native named Te Whio has laid an information against William Langley, who keeps tho Working Men's Club at Otaki, charging him with unlawfully appropriating a cheque for £10. It appears the native received a cheque from Mr Wm. Smith, of Otaki, and showed it to Langlcy in his house whilsc discussiug the purchase of a trap. Upon reaching Puretawhao, the cheque was missing, and upon interviewing Langley he denied to the native that he had ever seen it. The cheque was afterwards received at the Foxton Bank from Wellington, whether Langley had in the meantime gone, aud where it is supposed he changed it. The accused was brought up at Otaki on Wednesday before W. H. Simcox, Esq. J.P.,and remanded to Foxton. Weunderstand upon the same day (Wednesday next) Langley will be charged with two bi-eaches of tha* Lioensiug Act, by sly grog selling. It will be remembered that three or four months ago he was fined £50 for the same offence.
Tub Ohau Road. — We und«r Btand8 tand that Mr Hayns, County Engineer, has, in accordance with the resolution of the County Council engajjed Mr W. H. Hyg<jr, of Palmerston, to cut the line of the Otaki Road, and that on Saturday last considerable progress had been made, over two miles having been covered. Some difficulty was experienced in getting over Pakehou (upon which a trig, station is placed), without a very steep gradient, and three trial lines were thrown out ; the one selected is a veiy good one, ai d will enablo the obstacle in question to be easily surmounted. It is probable the whole surrey will be completed about the end of March. We believe Mr
