DARING ROBBERY.
. — + I £265 STOLEN AT WELLINGTON. ' A daring robbery, from tho offices of the Anchoi Line of steamers, on [ Custom liou?e quay, wi\s discovered t yesterday. It appears that on Monj day afternoon Air Brind, tbe purser 1 of tbe steamer Murray, brought into 1 the office n sum of £265 in bank . notes, which he had received on various j accounts during the round trip on the ' steamer, and Mr Brind requested I MrOlouston, who was in churge of L the office, to lock up the money in the i office safe. Air Clouston promised to ; do so, and instructed the clerk accordingly. The notes were wrapped i up in a piece of white paper, one of ' the steamer shipping forms, and 1 during the office hours were placed on the top of the safe by the side of the cashbox, where the roll remained until the office was closed, shortly before six o'clock. At that time it was sup* posed to have been put into the safe with the cashbox. The safe was locked, and everybody left the office, the door of which, however, was not locked, while it was always accessible by the window, which was unfastened. Yesterday morning the money was gone. The affair has been placed in the hands of the police, but as the numbers of the notes are not known serious difficulty is apprehended in tracing the robbers.— .N . Z. Times, of Tuesday.
