Our readers are requentcd to Overlook any i impcrfeetl >ns in the present issue. j Oiu Railway.— Tlie lieavy work on tho ! line on Thursday last, thoroughly tested our j railway service, and we have great ]>li > asure i in testifying to tho manner in wliich the I whole of the officials along the line dis- j charged the'r arduous duties. From the ' General Manager, Mr Rotherham, down to ' tho subordinates, no effort was spared to i afford not only convenience) btit comfort to ' tho passengers. The guards especially Jiad j trying work, but so thoroughly were they I up to their duty, that no hitch whatever • occurred, and everything passed oif well. We congratulate iVlr Rothcrham on the ; excellent body of subordinates le has on the ; line, and we a'so willingly accord to Air i Rotlicrham every praise for his rminfltnking j and successful eiForts to promote the welfare of tho thousands of esoU'sionislfi who travelled along tho line on Thursday. ! To oi'R Readf.us. — Wo are necessarily j compelled to curtail our reports of the Feild- ■ ing and Paluirrcton Sport Bi We have to j acknowledge with heartiest thanks the cour- : tesy of Messrs H. L. Sherwill and <J.S. ' Lockie, tho respective Secretaries, in afford- i ing every assistance und information to our special reporters. The Hvdhauad.— The latest news from the ship is that slio has been got off 40 feet. The third anchor is laid, and we hope before long to chronicle her arrival at Wellington wharf. Ball— Mr Deards' new hall at Palmerston was opened by a ball last evoning. 'Ihcre was a large attendance, and tho affair passed off very successfully. We congratulate the Terrace End residents o tho opening of so large and commodious a public building. Concert. — A concert, followed by a dramatic entertainment, was given in tho Fcreaters' Hall, Palmerston, last evening-, on behalf of the local cricket club, and the performance gave every satisfaction. A Model Policemax. — The Feilding Policeman is a model man. Yesterday, a slight dispute occurred, and tho men went off the field to " have it out." Going to the fence the policeman said, "Now then, come in hei-e. TII9 sports are going On very well, and if you get making a row, you'll givo the place a bad name !" The nppoal to tho men's patriotism was successful, and the quarrel terminated. New Train Service.— lt is probable the new train service will come into force in a few weeks. Under it, there will bo a triweekly midday service between Foxton and Halcombe. Tri-weekly services are not the beat, as people are apt to forget the day on which the train runs. However, half a loaf is better than none, and wo hope to have tho daily service directly the now engine arrives. We hear the Fairlio promised for this lino is being regularly used on the Ftatherslon railway. If such is tho case, this district is certainly being unfairly treated. Amusement. — An advertisement in our present issue, announces that Madame iWocller, Miss Moeller, and Signor Ferrors, will appear in the Foxton Public Hall on Tuesday next, December 31. Tho talents of the troupe arc so widely known, that a bumper house may be expected to greet them. Sale. — A sale of stock takes place at the Foxton Pound tomorrow.
