Coukcil Meeting. — Considerable interest appeared to be taken in the proceedings of the first meeting of the new Council, &b a number of our residents attended at the opening, and remained during the transaction of the most important business. A full report is given in our other columns. Cbickex Match.— The Cricket Match Foxton v, Palmerston takes place to-morrow on the ground near Whyte'a Hotel, Foxton. We understand a luncheoa will take place at 12 30 The wickets will bo pitched at 9,30, and will be drawn at 4 p.m, should the game be unfinished at that hour. The Palmeraton men return per afternoon train. Coubt Hocsk FaiLDiNo.— We are glad to see that tenders for the erection of this long needed want of our fellow-sottlers at Feildinif have at last been called for. Particulars as to places at which general condisions, specifications and drawings, may be seen, will be found iu our adv«rtisiug columns. Coach.— On "Wednesday last, the coach did not arrive from Wellington, owing to landslips on Paikakariki, and floods in the rivers. Wednesday's mails reached Foxton yesterday afternoun. Salb.— Messrs Thynne, linton and Go's 'sale is postponed, owing to the cricket match. Mayobal EiHcrioy.— The election for Mayor of Wellington took place on Wednesday, and resulted as follows :—Dransfield, 740 ; Hutchison, 737. HtdbAbad Caboo.— Messrs Bowe, Birchley and Co. have carted about 400 tons of ! the Hydrabad cargo to Hartley's, and are rapidly pushing on with the remainder. School Buildings. — We undentand Mr Flower has received a telegram from the Secretary stating that the tender of Messrs Alexander and McFarlane bat been accepted

Two tenders were received, but declined,.viz., J. A. Perreiu, £252 ;T. U. Cook, X'2o7. Some small repairs are to bo dona under directiou of the Engineer. — The forming and metalHug of tho street from tho Awahou Bridge to Bun's corner is to be done at once. Mr Cook's tender for £275 was accepted : Mr Perreau's tender of £295 being decliued. rouNDKi.ErF.B- Constable John Purcell has resigned tho position of poundkeeper, and the Chairman of the County Council and Dr Rockstrow are appointed a committee to enquire into tho affairs of tho Foxton pound. j
