The tables for last census, which was taken on the 3rd March, 1878, are before us. From ii we learn that the total population of this colony was 414,412 souls. The European population of the County of Manawatu is given at 4850 ; number of houses, 941. Including the interior borough of Palmerston, the County of Manawatu contains 5730 people. The County of Hangitikei has a populacion of 3,G90, and only 045 houses. The population of the Manawatu Electoral District is the same as the County, including the Borough. The following is the population of the principal townships in Rangitikei and Manawatu : — Bulls, 611 ; Marton, 593; Tarakina, 304; Feilding, 759; Halcombe, 532 ; Sanson, 140 ; Foxton, 563 : Palmerston, 880 ; Hadfield (Otaki), 197. The following is the population of the different Hidings in the Manawatu County : — Kiwitea, 40 ; Manchester, 1,713 ; Oroua, 607 ; Taonui, 824 ; Kawa Kawa, 658 ; Awahou, 805 ; Horowhenua, 197.
