TWO YOUNG CHILDREN DROWNED.

"With deep regret we announce the death of two young children in the Upper Manawatu, both of whom were drowned in wells. The first instance was that of a fine child three years of age, son of Mr Jacobsen, of Palmerston, which was misled by the mother on Friday, and found c! "owned in a weH shortly after. On Saturday, an inquest was held at Palineiston, before Dr Rockstrow, District Coroner, when a verdict of "accidentally downed" waj returned.

The other case it is our painful duty to record, is tho death by drowning, of the youngest child of Mr H. S. Palmerson, the wellknown surveyor. Dr Kockstrow had o' "y left Palmerston about half an hour, when the sad news reached that place from Awahuri, that Mr Palmerson's child had fallen into t!io well of Mr. A. McDonald, of Awahuri, and had "been drowned. The deceased child was only fifteen months old, aud was staying for a few days with his grandparents, at whose house the sad accident occurred. Dr Eockstrow Mt Foxton yesterday morning, by the early train for Awahuri, to hold au inquest upon the death.

Great sympathy is felt for the parents of the two children, and the death of Mr Palmerson's child, fol* lowing so close upon the festivities in honor of a marriage iv Mr McDon; 'd's family, has cast quite a gloom over tho district.

Tho relation of the above should be a very strong warning to all parents to have strong and secure coverings made for their wells.
