[special.] Auckland, Monday, 7.40 p.m. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association have accepted tenders for a building, costing £1200, for the show to bo held on the 9th November. A fire at Pukekohe destroyed Grosso's store. It was insured in South British for £1200, £500 being re-insured. The fire was caused by a child upsetting u kerosene lamp. iuonday, 7.30. p.m. At the roquest of the Corporation tho Chamber of Commerce held a general meeting to. day, with a view of co-operating in celebrating the opening of railway communication between Wellington and Wairarapa. It is understood that the celebration will take the form of a dinner and ball, to which Wairarapa visitors, and members of the General Assembly will be invited. The Chamber subscribed fifty pounds from its funds, while one hundred and sixty pounds besides, was subscribed privately by the members of the Chamber. A public meeting will be hel3 to-night to promote the same object. Tauranqv, Monday, 5 p.m. Some buildings on the town wharf, and a large amount of valuable property, were burnt last night. The damage is estimated at about £1000, uninsured. A new settler, named fcmith, at Katikati, is tbe severest sufferer.
