MORE SUGAR FOR JAM

AUCKLAND, Jan. 23.
More sugar for making jams and preserves will be available throughout New Zealand after the arrival early next month of 10,000 tons from England, the manager of the Colonial Sugar Refining Co. Ltd., Mr R, M. ©addington, said yesterday. The shipment due in Wellington in the freighter Alfa Zambesi, will be distributed partly in Wellington and later in the South Island, when discharge is made at other ports. The arrival of this shipment would enable increased deliveries to be made by the company from its works in Auckland to the city and other North Island centres at other ports. The New Zealand Master Grocers' Federation at its anniial conference in Invercargill next month, will have before it a remit asking the Government to have monthly sugar production figures pubiished in the Abstract of Statistics. This was stated today by the Secretary of the Auckland Associstion, Mr R, M. Barker.
