HOUSEWIVES' DISLIKES
SURVEY IN BRITAIN
(N.Z.P.A. Correspondent)
LONDON, Jan. 21. The most unpopular household job, in the opinion of middle-class liousewives consulted in a national survey by mass observation, were: Cleaning out and lighting fires, doing grates, and cleaning cookers. The second most disliked tasks were shopping and washing. Four per cent. of the women concerned said they "hated all household tasks," and a similar number disliked none of them. The order of unpopularity after the first and second "dislikes" was: Dusting, washing-up, makirig beds, polishing, scrubbing, ironing, cooking, cleaning baths and sinks, and mending. Both men and women were asked which day of the week they disliked most and least. Monday was universally unpopular. It meant for fiiost people "work again, tiredness, irritability after the week-end, cold food, washing orgies, ahd the next week-end far away." The most popular day was Sunday, which most people liked as a "passive, leisured, do-as-you-nlease" day. Some disliked it as a day of "stubborn boredom," and "deadendness." Saturday was the second most popular day, with ".plenty of sport, shopping, film and theatre going, active, exciting, colourful."
