"Tawa to 135," said the Auckland police radio at 9.5 p.m. on Friday, "here is a description of a missing car. . ." Patrol car 135 had stopped at the traffic lights at the top of Queen Street. The sergeant jotted down the description — then his eyes shifted to the car ahead. "Repeat that number," he asked. A few moments later a surprised young man in the car ahead was apprehended. At 9.12 p.m. the young man was in the watch-hoiise listening to a charge being read, and the gratified car owner was learning that he could call and collect his car.
