INCIDENTS IN NORWAY
TWITTING THE GERMANS. "News of Nor way/' the weekly sheet issued by the Royal Norwegian Information Service in Washington, D.C., U.S.A., has the following items in October and November: — Seven British soldiers, captured after having destroyed a power station at Glomfjord, were put aboard a German ship at Oslo a few days ago. Each was chained to a German soldier, and each was transported in a separate car. In addition, a guard of twelve heavily armed' German soldiers accompanied the prisoners, The "town character" of a small west coast community paid a visit to the local Nazi-named mayor, and the following conversation ensued: "Just one little thing I wanted to ask you, mayor. If Germany loses the war what'll you do then?" "But Germany's sure to win. That's plain as day!" "Yes, but supposing she loses?" "But I say. Germany can't lose!" "Btit supposing she does lose?" "Impossible ! " "But what would you do if she should lose?" "Well, in that case I'd take my hat and go." "Your hat? What would you put it on?" Quisling has prohibited all newspaper mention of the city of Oslo's current rat-exterminating campaign. Two years ago one of Oslo's leading newspapers lent its enthusiastic support to such a drive with a strong editorial entitled "Out With the Rats!" To readers who substituted the word "Germans" for "rats" wherever it occurred, the editorial provided no end of delight, and it was plain that the editorial writer planned it that way. Even the beefheaded editors of Quislmg's official newspaper, Fritt Folk, caught on, and they wrote an indignant editorial in reply, all to the increased amusement of the general public. V — '
