OVERTIME RATES

RULING AS TO LABOUR DAY.

P.A.

AUCKLAND, Oct. 27.

Because of the manner of the making of the announcement that the timber industry in all its undertakings would be required to make up time lost through the observance of Labour Day, holiday workers throughout New Zealand had gained the impression that overtime worked on subsequent days in making up the time would be paid for only at ordinary rates, stated the seeretary of the New Zealand Timber Workers' Union, Mr Craig. Numerous expressions of dissatisfaction had reached him from various parts of the country and he had accordlngly sought a ruling from the Timber Controlier. This ruling was that overtime worked in making up a statutory holiday should be paid for at overtime rates. \7 . .
