P.A. Gable.
CAIRO, Oct. 26.
The Australians, who in their part in the general Allied advance in the E1 Alamein area on Saturday reached the first stage towards their planned objective and steadied themselves while waiting for the barrage to lift. Then they went on to take their final objective at the bayonet point. Fighting alongside British, New Zealand, Scottish, South African, Fighting French, and Greeks, the Australians were the first to achieve their objective, capturing en route a number of prisoners comprising surly Nazis and dejeeted Italians. All were hungry and thirsty and fqr the most part shell-shocked by our gunfire. Our easualties were comparatively light.
