BLANKET SUBSTITUTES.

WOOL FLEECE QUILTS. The difflculties caused by the shortage of blankets are being overcome by some enterprising women by making warm bed coverings in their own homes. Some women' have spun the wool and then knitted it into blankets, some have made quilts by using as a lining the wool not suitable for spinning, and others have reverted to the making of patchwork quilts. These quilts are designed in various ways, some being made from squares of warm material backed with cretonne, and others are made from hand-knitted peggy squares. They are warm and serviceable and look attractive. Quilts have also been made by filling small bags, such as salt bags, with wool that has been washed and teased, and then sewing these bags together and covering them with any available material. These have been found to be most satisfactory. They can be washed, and they are said to be even warmer than blankets, and yet not uncomfortably heavy. y
