DANGERS OF GELIGNITE.
Sir. — In reference to your article headed "Dangerous Playthings"' in yesterday's issue, I have had a fair experience with gelignite, and I have found the most dangerous time to use it is in the winter or when it is frozerr. While rn Ihe- soft state it is fairly safe, although there are a few "don'ts" not generally known. Below I will state those I know. Detonatcrs are a source of danger at any time and, I consider wor.se than the explosive. Don'ts: Do not allow explosives to freeze. Do not use in the frozen state. Do not break in two when frozen, in fact frozen "jelly" is more (dangerous than any 'explosive. Dc not expose near sparks or sudden heat Do not throw down hard, as concussion eauses explosions. There are quite a number of things worth knowing about this explosive and my little knowledge is open tc anycrre who cares to write me.
