BLUE MOUNTAIN DUCK.

Sir,— A note of interest was struckwhen your correspondent, F. Lissaman, made mention of the blue mountain duck. It may be of interest to bird-lovers to know that this bird is fairly plentiful in the Lakes district of Southland, more especially in the Te Anau area about the Clinton River. If one walks from the outlet of the Clinton towards the MacKinnon Pass, there will be found the blue mountain, or whistling, duck which are, as your correspondent mentioned, very tame and are jealously g.uarded by the Tourist Department guides who work in this district during the summer

months.
