TRENTHAM TRACKWORK

With an improvement in the weather Trentham tracks were excellent for the trials this morning. The course proper was open and practically all the fast work was done there. Representative and Route March were partners over seven furlongs done in 1.39, the last
half-mile in 51sec. Yogi and Coronace travelled a mile in 1.45, the first half-mile in 51sec. Nizam, Bronzo and Phaleron finished in that order at the end of six furlongs run in 1.16, but Phaleron was' closing the gap. Sea Spi beat Caithness and Sedgemere comfortably over half a mile, but was not timed. Ring Scarf and Queen's Charm were on terms over half a mile run in 51sec. Straight Left finished better than Broadcaster over six furlongs in 1.15, the last half-mile in 52sec. Golden Acre and Makarora ran six furlongs in 1.17. Marram impressed in a sprint home with Look Again and Tara King, the trio being two-year-olds. Katesbridge and Landveyor were together with Genghiz Khan beaten off and the mile done in 1.43. Beau Vaals worked brilliantly over five furlongs with The Champ running 1.3 for the full distance and the last half-mile in 49sec. Centrepoise was ddlng it comfortably ahead of Piastre at the end of seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5, the last half-mile in 52sec. Rink and Don Quex were on terms over five furlongs run in 1.4 1-5, the former shaping well. Egyptian Rose was travelling well within herself a,t the end of a halfmile sprint with Manutere, done in 49»sec. The latter gave a good performance for a maiden. Kindergarten, with a good weight up, traversed a mile, the last seven furlongs in 1.28 and the last four in 5Hsec. He went fast early. Dominaie secured a break on Indian Sign in the early stage of a flve furlongs gallop, but the latter was almost on terms at the post in 1.2. Daljarrock strode along the back stretch to come home the last half-mile in 51|sec. Dark Folly just shaded Soncy over half-a-mile in 51«sec. Belle Fox slipped over half a mile in 49sec, but was slowing up at the post. Foxlore had the edge on Clinch over half a mile done in 51sec. The scratchings officially announced are: Wardress, Gay Fort, Warrigal, Cheap Lodging, Good Scout, Gulf Stream, Athenian, Hinkler, Prince Rewa, Minority, Boloyna and Strip. Lady Tippin has been withdrawn from the Guineas owing to the death of Mr A. Mclntosh. Royal Heir and Sporting Sister were scratched for the first day, but are expected to fulfil their engagements for the second day. v. —
