FAMINE IN CHINA
THOUSANDS DYING, MILLIONS STARVING.

NEW YORK, Oct. 19.
The Chungking correspondent of the American Associated Press says that, stricken by one of the worst famines in modern times, tho-usands of Chinese a.re dying in the Honan Province, where six million are officially reported to be on the verge of starvation. Official reports to Chungking said that 18 million famine refugees clogged the roads from Honan towards Shensi and Hepeh. The situation was intensifled by the necessity of supporting the large military force holding the present front against the Japanese.
