2nd LIBERTY LOAN
MARLBOROUGH TOTAL £7460. MILITARY DISPLAYS PROMISED*. Marlborough investments in the second Liberty Loan on Saturday amounted to £1260, while an additicnal £290 was reeeived yesterday. This brings the total of investments to date up to £7460. A general meeting of the Blenheim committete which is endeavouring to promote the success of the loan locally was held last night, the Mayor, Mr C. T. Smith, presiding. Brigadier A. C. Nathan, V.D., and Wing Commander Tancred, A.F.C., were present and agreed to join the committee, promising to do all in their power to rouse public interest in the need for the loan and the realisation that the money was being expended in equipment for the fighting forces. It was decided, as a Liberty Loan rally, to hold a miiitary parade in Market Place on Friday, November 6, E'rigadier Nathan and Wing Commander Tancred promising to provide detachments of the Armed Services and bands. On Tuesday, November 10, a spectacular combined miiitary and air display will be held at the Vernon butts, and it is hoped that bus transport can be made available for this. Live grenade and bombing displays will be given and it was stated that a loud-speaker system would be arranged so that" each portion of the variecl display could be followed and understood by the public, The committee decided to try to arrange for the closing of shops and schools during the parade, and also the display. Traffic control on each occasion will be in charge of Inspector J. A. Laird and his assistants of the Emergency Traffic Corps. X7
