WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

FLAXBOURNE MEETING. \ At the October meeting of the Flaxbourne Women's Institute as a Aniniature flower show was held it was an open afternoon and several visitors were welcomed. Mrs T. E. Taylor very kindly aeted as judge of the flower classes. The roll-call, "How to deal with the sugar shortage," did not bring forth any helpful suggestions, An excellent report on the half-yearly council meeting was given by the delegate, Miss B. McNabb. The monthly competitions were won as follows: — Best bloom, Mrs Crispin 1, Mrs Crispin 2; best vegetable, Mrs McNabb 1, Mrs Mason 2. A competition, "Something drawn from nine straight lines and a dot," produced some amusing results and was won by Miss V. Mason, with Mrs McAlpine second. A bring-and-buy was held, as a result of whieh the sum of £2 6s lld was raised for the lepers of Makogai. The flower show resulted as follows: — Gentleman's buttonhole — Seniors: Mrs Forsyth 1, Mrs Crispin 2, Mrs I. McNabb 3. Juniors: Miss V. Mason 1, MissB. McNabb 2, Miss M. Nicoll 3. Shoulder-spray for day wear — Seniors: Mrs I. McNabb 1 and 2, Mrs Crispin 3. Juniors: Miss B. McNabb 1 and 2, Miss V. Mason 3. Bedside posy — Seniors: Mrs Crispin 1, Mrs Moran 2, Miss R. Waters 3. Juniors: Miss B. McNabb 1 and 2, Miss M. Nicoll and Miss V. Mason (equal) 3. Posy of flowers — Seniors: Mrs Crispin 1, Mrs I. McNabb 2 and 3. Juniors: Miss V. Mason 1. Massed floating bowl: Mrs Crispin 1, Mrs Moran 2, Mrs Forsyth 3. Massed bowl: Miss B. McNabb 1, Mrs Crispin and Mrs Moran (equal) 2, Mrs Forsyth 3. Vase of flowers: Mrs Crispin 1, Mrs Moran 2, Mrs Moran and Mrs McNabb (equal) 3. Small bowl of flowers: Mrs Crispin 1, Miss R. Waters 2, Mrs I. McNabb 3. Jug of flowers: Mrs Crispin 1, Miss B. McNabb 2, Mrs Moran 3. Four flowering shrubs: Mrs Crispin 1, Mrs McNabb 2, Mrs O'Connor 3. Most points — Seniors: Mrs Crispin. Juniors: Miss B. McNabb.
