QUALITY IN E.P.S.
IMPORTANT AS IN BRITAIN. VISITING OFFICIALS' CONTENTION. The importance of a high standard of efficiency in New Zealand's E.P.S. was emphasised last night by Mr W. C. Hamann, Deputy-Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Home Security in Britain, when addressing personnel of the Blenheim organisation. "I was recently taken to task for saying in a Sunday evening broadcast that the standard of the E.P.S. set-up out here must be the same as in England in places which have been blitzed," said Mr Hamann. "The contention was that I have made no allowance for the possible difference in the weight and nature of the attack. I would like to emphasise that the quality of your work must be of the standard we have in England. That is my contention and I definitely repeat it. "The quantity of your preparations will be governed by strategic and local factors. I have no doubt," Mr Hamann said. "The extent of your preparations will take into consideration the demands of all other branches of the national war effort. However, we must hot be found unprepared twice over. If we make allowances in quantity we must not make allowances in quality. New Zealand's E.P.S. must conform to the highest possible standard."
