CURTAILED HOSING

RESTRICTIONS IN FORCE. EARLY START WITH ZONING. Hosing restrictions are to be introduced in Blenheim earlier this season than usually is the case, and from to-day onwards each of the three zones will be restricted to two hours' use, both night and morning, on two days a week. Sunday is an off-day for all zones, no hosing at all being permitted on that day. Where infringements of the restrictions are detected prosecutions will follow. Discussing the position with the Borough Engineer (Mr P. Burgoyne) this afternoon, The Express was informed that as soon as the present dry spell began to manifest itself cases of indiscriminate hosing started to occur, hoses being left running in many instances both day and night. The water pressure in town was all right at present, but no system could stand such uncontrolled use, and it had been decided to get in early this year and stop any trouble from water shortage that might otherwise develop, and which would then be harder to put an end to. Additional reasons for the step, added Mr Burgoyne, were that under the E.P.S., a good pressure was always required in the mains in case of emergency. There was also the fact that the scheme was being called on now to an increasing extent for ordinary supply purposes. V
