HEAVY RAIDS ON MALTA
ENEMY MADE TO PAY DEARLY.

A Cairo communique states: "Heavy bombers on Saturday night attacked an aerodrome at Tymbaki (Orete), starting fires. Long-range fighters attacked a schooner north - east of Sidi Barrani, the ship being left enveloped in smoke. Targets on the Sollum-Sidi Barrani road were also attacked. "Heavy bombers claim a direot hit on the stern of a merchantman in an attack yesterday on a south-bound convoy near Orete. An escorting Messerschmitt was shot down into the sea. "Heavily-escorted enemy bombers made five attacks yesterday on Malta. Our fighters destroyed at least 15 enemy aircraft with as many more damaged. "We lost one Malta fighter in all these and other operations." A Malta communique also records increased air attacks on the island. Two enemy planes were destroyed without loss to ourselves, and a nurnber of additional enemy maehines were damaged during three raids up to the time of the message.
