LIBERTY LOAN

MARLBOROUGH PLANS. STRONG COMMITTEE AT WORK. The second Liberty Loan of £10,000,000 is now in the hands of the public. What has happened in Norway in the past few days and in Nazi and Japanese-occupied lands will doubtless make the people of Marlborough feel that another investment in Liberty will pay even better dividends than the 21 per cent. for the short-term stock and the 3 per cent. for the longer-term issue. It is expected that Marlborough, as in the past, will do its full share towards raising the funds necessary to carry on the war to victory — and every penny of the present loan will be used for war purposes. An officer of the Reserve Bank recently addressed a gathering of representative citizens of the Province, and as a result a strong local committee was set up to ensure the success of this 2nd Liberty Loan in Marlborough. The, loan was opened for public subscription yesterday, and will closeon November 14, but it should be over-subscribed well before that. Marlborough subscriptions totalled £1390 for the opening day. The daily tally will be announced in these columns and it is confidently expected that the province will, as usual, do more than its full share to ensure that this interest-bearing contribution" to the war's cost will be fully met.
