RISK OF MISUNDERSTANDING

RUSSIAN DIS S ATI SF ACTION. NEED FOR A STATEMENT.

P.A. Gable.

LONDON, Oct. 11.

After another week in which the newspapers and the raclio in Russia and Russian news-sheets abroad, have continued to give prominence to the subject of the second front, Reuter's Moscow correspondent says it has become clear that the Russians are unable to understand the considerations determining the Anglo- American decisions on strategy, especially regarding the opening of a second front. A statement from an authori--tative British or American leader appears inost desirable to prevent what looks like the further development of a fundamental misunderstanding. Pravda, after a comparison of British and American shipbuilding figures with the announced tonnage losses, declared: "German propaganda that lack of tonnage is curbing the Allied expansion of war operations is worth nothing. On the contrary, the facts confirm the assertions in the British and American press that Allied losses are much ex - ceeded by a ceaseless string of new rnerchantmen."
