(Received June 27^ 10.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 27. A deliberate attempt was made to blow up the machinery on which the new Creta coHiery, in the Newcastle district, depends for its supplies of water. Intruders visited the shed in which the pumping machinery is housed, on the banks of the Hunter river, cut the belt used in the pump1 ing process, and placed three charges of expiosive at vital points in the machinery. One shattered a motor and another damaged the pump itself, but the third failed to explode.
