Press 'Association Telegram.
CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. The general grant reeeived by Canterbury College from the Education Department for the year ending in March, 1935, will be £3500 less than, it was last year, according to advice reeeived from the Department by the College Council at a meeting. The grants will ibe £1500 for arts and general, and £3645 for the school of engineering. The College Council has arranged for a deputation to v/ait upon the Minister for Education to protest against the reduction. The chairman of the board, Mr C.T. Aschman, said that the reduction covered :an extra. grant made to the college last year. Had the grant been iontinued this year the council would have been able further to reduce the college overdraft. Without the extramoney it might ibe necessary to watch expenditure closely, but it would not mean that any department of ' the college would have to be close d down.
