RAWHITI V. UNITED.

Rawhiti defeated United by two goals Ho nil in the men's competition. The game was played on Nelson Square, Picton. The ground, being very heavy, slowed up the game somewhat, but a good even contedt eventuated. United attacked strongly and reached the circle, but were driven back to midfield where play remained for some time. Rawhiti eventually broke through and were conceded a penalty corner, nothing coming of it, the ball going behind. Play travelled quickiy from one end to the other, the respective full-backs putting plenty of power behind their clearing shots. United penned Rawhiti in the circle and a score seemed assured. but numerous close up attempts to goal failed. A very solid spell ended with the honours even— no score. On resuming, both teams went "all out," but numerous penalties had to be inflicted for lifting the ball. The best piece of work during the match was now staged. Flood collected a long drive and, running through to half-way, sent on to E. Smith. Rawhiti's right winger picked up nicely and ran down the line, crossed to the circle and from a very acute angle, sent in a stinger that found the net. The goal was a gem, and it is doubtful if the goalkeeper had a glimpse of the ball. With Rawhiti one up United strove hard to draw level. They reached the circle several times but had no luck with their shots. C. Flood was playing particularly well and never made a mistake. Assisted by E. Tarrant, he sent the forwards away once more, and M Saul was given a hectic few minutes in goal. He same through well, making some brilliant saves. However, from one of Rawhiti's persevering attacks Weetman whittled his way through the defence and scored from close in. The game ended with Rawhiti the winners by two goals to nil. D. Saul (United fullback) played a very good game. Messrs E. B. Swanwiclc and A. Harris controlled the game.
