PEKIN, Sept. 30. A genei'al anti-rcd offqnsive has coiiimcnced in the vicinity of N&nchang, witH the ohject of reea.pturing Hankow. Information from the front is ' scarcc, but it is bolicved that fieree figbting is progrcssing, the reportod results of which are distorted by tlie respeetive cetiisors. Thc Reds are thought to be rcceiving a set-baek and to be retrcating and shortening the lines, which. had been unwisely spi'ead. The siege of Wuchang is weakening, due to the withcl rawai of the miajority of the atacking force to meet Sun-chuan-fang's advance, but the predieament of the besieged is unchanged. Hundreds ar'e dead or dying of starvation . or di,sease> Anti-Red reinforcements are proeeeding to Hankow to assist in its recapture and relieve Wuchang, and the commandeered Freneh and American steamers. Reports daily from all sources mention the looting of foreign homes. It is ascertained that thc Reds were instructed to loot only British property.
