AUCKLAND, Oct. 1. The disappearanoe of large sums of money from letters in private boxes at tlie Chief Post Office has engaged tlie attention of the postal authorities for two months past. The letters were sonietimes sealed up and r epLa.ee d after postal notes had been extracted and sometimes a note was written on tlie envelope "Opened by the postal authorities." Yesterclay a youth was arrested and eharged with the theft of a tenshilling note. It was stated in conrt that he admitted a number of offenoes. He was remanded for a week.
