A desire to shake ha lds with a prisoner mate of theirs who was being escorted to ontrain for Christchurch, brouglit two young men to Conrt this moming charged with attempting to communicate with a prisoner undergoing sentence. The-y puisbed up to speak to the prisoner on the station, and, thougli warned, peisisted. "He was my ' mate,"- said one, "and it was only human nature that we should want f,o sppalc hefore: he went away." The police stated that this man was concerned in the same case as the prisoner ancl was on probation. The magisfrate said it was a serious matter, but, considering all Uie eircumstances, he would not enter a conviction.
