\\ ELLINGTON, Sept. 3(1. Tlie claims of IVilliam Webster, an American citizen wlio left New Zealand in 1845, to large areas of land alleged to have been purcliased from the Natives in 1836-1839, have been finallv. ■settled by th© British and American Claims Arbitration Tribunal. Webster died in 1897, leaving his entire estate to his widow. Flie whole of Webster's claims wero re.je.cted . The claims varied from 6,500*000 dollarsin 1895 to £265,000 in 1890. That the tribunal was ahle> to arrive at a just deeision and reject the claims is attribnted largely to the able aucl conyincing manner in which the British ea.se was prepared by the late Sir Jolin Salmond, who, as Solicitor-General, visited Wasliington and England in 1913 in connection with th© ease.
