Aus. and N.Z. Gable Association.
LONDON, Sept. 28. _ Describing the closing scenes in the House of Commons the Daily Express says : "Mr Lloyd George put searching quesfions to Mr Churchill with a view to elucidating the Government' s offer. These, perhaps, were too penetrating for Mr Churchill to answer, but tlie Socialists saved liim awkwardness, because they rapidly lost their- temper as he poured scorn 011 the futility of a-gain dragging out terms which the miners had rejeeted. It was a crescendo of hot feelings until the stroke of eleven o'clock, where upon Mr Churchill, shouting ahove the storm that he thought more of Mr Cook and Mr Smith than of Laborites seeking party capital, banged his despatch box down and decliued to enter into a detailed discussion of the Government's offer." Miners' delegates from all pa-rts of the country will meet in London today. Mr Cook last night stated thatthe executive had not prepared any recommendation. The conference would consider the whole situation. He denied the report that he had talked to Mr Churchill on Monday night, It was merely a passing handshake.
