The position in regard to the market for white pine is reported to show an improvement (says the G reymouth Star). The price, however, is about 2s per 100ft. lower than that ruling 12 months ago. Bome of the West Coast mills which have been Working shorthanded or have been closed recently will shortly resunie cutting white pine orders. It is a long tirne since there was such a dearth of fat cattle in Hawke's Bay as is being expprienced just now (says the Napier Telegraph). Local butclrers are having to go as far afield as Wairarapa ancl Manawatu to fulfil their requirements. Oow beef, especially, is invery short supply throughout the scuthern part of the island.
