TEN SHILLING TOTE

INNOVATION AT AUCKLAND. TO BE TRIED AT ELLERSLIE.

IBy Telegraph—

-Own Correspondent.'

AUCKLAND, Sept. 29. A meeting of the Auckland Racing Club Cbmmitteo was hekl yesterday, when a petition from m'embers of the Club asking for facilities for purehasing ten shilling, tibkets on the totalisator at Ellerslie was furtlier cousidered. The .question proved a difficult one to settle from many points of view, especially in regard to> the probable effect on the Club's revenue, a reduotion in whicb would also mean a similar reduction in prizei-money for winnei's and necessary aceommodation for the publie, etc. Inquiries from many leading clubs led to the opinion that, the installation of 10s investments on the lawn at Ellerslie would prove to' act adversely on the revenue. A good number of clubs did not provide 10s totalisator® on any part of their raceeourses. After _ very full consideration it was deeided to meet the petitioners' wishes and give them the necessary facilities for investing on t\he totalisator in 10® tickets, and also to allow general patrons of the lawn ihe privilege of patronising the 10s toalisatov on the hill. by the instistitution of a, system of passes betweetr the two enclosnres.
