WELLINGTON. Sept, 29. The difficulty experienoed by the Cheviot Racing Club in securing permiissioe to cbange its activitiee to trotting was the subject of a lively discussion dunng the reeent session. A Select Committee recommended the Government to give favorable consideration to the club's positjon that it be permitted to change its oonstitution, though Ihe Racing Conferenoe had refnsed its sauction to this request. The matter in the last resort nests with the Ministev for J.nternal Affairs, who grants racing or trotting per m its, and ii js evideot that the ventilation of the Cheviot Club's trouble will have good resuhs, it heing uuderstoocl tliat the chib is advised to apply for a cbange of oonstitution to enable it to conduct trotting races ,ior which its course is more suitable than for gallops. If this is done it may be regarded :a»s oertain that oue trotting permit will be issued to Cheviot. The matter interests a number of other country clubs which liold racing permits and are inclined to make' the change to trots, owing to the fact that thev can get better fields and make these small meetings pay better than under flat racing terms.
