A PECULIAR FATALITY.
AUCKLAND, Sept. 27. At the inquest on the hody of George Simmonds, aged 38, who died a,s a result of a gunshot wouncl, it transpircd that the deceased was a clerk of works employed hy the Puhlic Works Department. In a statement made in the hospital the deceased said he moved a shotgun leaning against the wa.ll and was replacing it when it accidentally went off, the charge en.tering his arm. He was operated on twice and seemed to be progre-ssing satisfactorily, but died! from septicaemia. The Coroner said there seemed to he some doubt as to the deceased'is movements prior to the accident and it was strange that no oue heard the report of the gun. On the police application the inquest was adjourned for further evidence.
