Mr Meighen announoed that he did not intend to contest a seat in Parliament, and that be would retire frohi the le;(dership of tlie Gonservative Party at a oonference of memhers on October Hth. Mr Meighen announoed that ever.v facility would be afforded tlie Canadian representatives to attend the Imperial Conferenee, and if Parliament reassembled assistance would be given by the Opijjosition for the prompt despateh of business. Mr King officiaJly sta.ted to-day that he would attend the Imperial Conferenee, aecompanied by Mr Lapointe, Minister for Justice, and possibly by another Minister. Parliament is likely to meet during the first week of Decemb-er. Mr Forke, former leader of the Progressives, will assume the portfolio of lmmigration and Colonisa-

fcion. He was elected as joint Liberal and P'rogressive candidate. Mr V noent Massey, a former president of the Massey-Harris Company, has been chosen as Canada's first Minister Plenipotentiary to Washington, but tlie Premier announced to-day that a -definite appointmcnt will b© held in abeyance until he has had an opportunity to discuss the matter with the Imperial Government when at-tending tlie Imperia 1 Conferenee .
