SATURDAY' S REP. FIXTURE, M ATCH AVITH SOUTH WELLINGTON. VTSTTOR.S AY1N BY 3-0. On Saturdiay afternoon, at Pollai-rl Park, the Marlborough "Soccer" reps. met and were defeated hy Wellington South, a team which played with go-od combina.tion, each man 'do mg the right thing and at the right timo, with the ball. A.s was the case m the trial match on the previous Saturday , a high wind inlerfered vrith play. The teams w-er-e : — South Wellington: Be-Il, Hall Mar ' tin, Lampard, Reyland, Eiliott '( akel bread , Elliot, 'Guise, Bolt' and Guise. Marlborough : Bieirne, Loom.s ( hcesnian. Strauge,, Edwards, Meek' Millard, Simoock, Bowden Walk-o-' and Oeliterlon-ey. MATCH DESCRTBED. Marlborough won the toss and set the visitors to play against the wind Wellington soon settled down and within fiv-e minutes Reyland had a long shot, the ball just skim-ming over the bar. From the goal kiok th-e ball went to Meek who passed forward to Ochterlon-ey, who oentred Hall clearing. The next fiftW minutes saw give and take plav • then Wellington forced and L-ooms had to conoede a corner, C'heesman clearing well down field to Simcoek who carried on and shot, b-ut was unsuccessful . The AVel li ngton left wi 11 owas now showmg good combinatioir with Reyland, at centre-half keeping them well fed. From a seramblo 111 front of the AA^ellington goal Marlborough were awarded a corner Millard placing well but not allowiu' sufficient for the wind. From the goal kick, Reyland sent his forwards away to finish with a gro-uncl shot from Bolt, the ball beating Beirne— Wellington 1, Marlborough 0. With only about ten minutes to o-o Marlborough s-et off to even up, but over-eagerness lost Bowden a goal the sanie player again missing ha-dly fxve minutes -afterwards. 0n the cail of half-time, Simcock was unfortunate in not goaling, the ball strikinothe cross-bar. The seconcl spell was not quite as ra'st, and with th-e- wind in their favor AYellington soon began to attack, Bolt b-e-ing well to the fore, ancl within ten minutes had added Wellington 's seconcl goal— 2-0. Beirne had much more work in this -spell -and made some good saves. Bowden ancl Simcock set out to sciore, but met with frustration by Hall and Martin, Reyland was still goirig strongly and sending in se-veral long shots . From a Marlborough forward rush a corner was awarded, the ball going behind. The next 20 minutes were not very interesting, the AYellington forwards going much as they pleased. AYith about- 10 minutes to go, Bolt shot, Beirne clearing only to b-e beaten by a return shot from Cakebreacl— 3-0. From the centre-kick AYalker, Bowden, and Simcock took the ball well clown., but the goalie canie well out to clear. The final five min-utes were a-11 in favor of AYellington, and the whistle for tim-e saw them, pressing. Mr H. B. Hay refereed. For the visitors Reyland w-as the star : whilst Bolt and the Guise brothers were always prominent. It would be hard to -single out any other individual play-er as all played great football. For Marlborough , the- best could be picked from Beirne, Edwards, Meek, and Simcock. THE VISITORS ENTERTAINED. After the match the visitors we-re the guests at a dance in, the Grange Hall, th-e lacly memb-ers of the Oddfellows Lodge and other supporters of the Football Association making exeell-ent a rr angements . Yesterday. through the courtesv of Messrs Glover, T-euton, ancl Roussell in pla-eing their cars at the service o-f the Association, an enjoyable afternoon was sp-ent motoring to the power works, where refreshments were providecl. The prograinm-e for to-day provides for a match with an eleven selected bv Mr S. Hooson, to be follow-ed by a dinner at 6.30 at the Masonio Hotel.
