THE PICTON FREEZING WOKKS
The Cqninsittee of the Marlborougl) A. and P. Association has received the following letter of reply from the general manager of the N.Z. Keirifjeratinjj Company, Lid.:— (i\Vo have to acknowledge receipt of your favor of the 27th inst., and la reply have to advise that it is quite impossible for us to provide increased 'storage at Picton during the coming season. livery effort is being made to add extensively to our other works, where the power is available and it is obvious that if it is found possible to complete these extensions, as we hope to do, the storage accommodation thus provided will be practically as beneficial to Marlborough as if it were actually available at Picton. We have already taken up, with the shipping committee, the necessity of clearing Pieton before the commencement of the new season, and v\c are hopeful that a complete clearance will be effected before it, is necessary to reopen. We would like your Committee to rest assured that no effort will be spared by us to prevent a stoppage at Picton during the coming season, and that the claims of the district will be recognised to the utmost extent possible."
The following resolution was passed : —"That the East' Coast Settlers1 Association be informed that, in view of the pressing calls for war loans and the calling up of extra money on shares of the Refrigerating Company, the Committee consider the present time would be inopportune for such a canvass as has been suggested, but the Committee agrees that later on, perhaps in the autumn, a movement should be initiated by the farmers of Marlborougli to start co-operative works/
